ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University redshirt sophomore Devin Bass was selected as the Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week on Monday following his performance this pass Saturday in the Bobcats' 34-31 win over Marshall.
Bass (Omaha, Neb.) was a one-man wrecking crew in the Bobcats' secondary as he tallied a game and career-high 11 tackles. He also registered 0.5 tackles for loss and recorded his first interception on the year.
His interception came in the fourth quarter and helped secure Ohio's third-consecutive win over rival Marshall. In addition, Bass had a career-high four pass breakups and missed just two defensive snaps all game.
Bass is the second Bobcat defensive player to be named MAC East Defensive Player of the Week this season. Last week, redshirt sophomore linebacker Jovon Johnson (Solon, Ohio) won the award following his strong defensive performance against North Texas.
Ohio returns to action this week as it welcomes Austin Peay to Peden Stadium Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will be aired on ESPN3 and on the Ohio IMG Sports Radio Network.
