Two Bobcats Earn MAC Honors
Oct. 24, 2005
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Sophomore running back Kalvin McRae (Decatur, Ga.) and junior linebacker Matt Muncy (Miamisburg, Ohio) have been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. It is the sixth time in seven games that Ohio has had at least one player win a weekly award from the MAC. McRae put up the best rushing total in the nation this season with 264 yards on 29 carries in the Bobcats' 38-21 win against Ball State. His rushing yardage ranks third on the Ohio single-game list and marked his second 200-yard day of the season (vs. Kent State). McRae is the first Ohio player to have at least two games with a minimum of 200 yards rushing since Arnold Welcher had three in 1975. McRae is one of only five backs in the nation to post at least two games of 200 yards this season. It is the first time in his career that he has been named the division's offensive player of the week. Muncy takes league honors for the second time this season after registering 11 tackles, including a career-best 2.0 sacks against the Cardinals. He also was a part in both Bobcat takeaways. He forced and recovered a fumble on Ball State's first play from scrimmage and then recovered a fumble in the second quarter. Muncy has had double-digit tackles in five of Ohio's seven games this season. He leads the team with 82 stops, already more than his season total from last year. The Bobcats (3-4, 2-2 MAC) travel to Buffalo on Saturday, Oct. 29. A victory against the Bulls would equal the team's best eight-game start since going 4-4 in 2000 en route to a 7-4 finish. |
