Ohio's Mike Fox Earns 2000 Verizon Academic All-District IV Honors

Athens, Ohio (November 9, 2000) - Ohio junior Mike Fox was named to the 2000 Verizon Academic All-District IV Football Team announced on Thursday, Nov. 9. The native of Cincinnati (Sycamore HS) has started at defensive end for the Bobcats in 20-straight games, dating back to last season. He boasts a 3.33 GPA as a mathematics education major.
Fox is sixth on the Ohio squad with 37 tackles, pacing the Bobcat front line. Each of his three tackles for loss have been sacks and he grabbed his first career interception earlier this season against Tennessee Tech. Fox has also posted four quarterback hurries and forced a fumble. He has been a key to Ohio's defense which has not allowed 30 points in a game this season, just one of eight I-A schools to make that claim.
To be nominated for the team, student-athletes must meet be a starter or important reserve and have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a sophomore both academically and athletically. The team is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA). The members of Verizon Academic All-District Football Team will be included on the ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America team which will be announced on December 5.
