Ohio-NIU Game Notes
ATHENS, Ohio-The Ohio football team (7-3, 5-1 MAC) hosts Northern Illinois (7-3, 5-1 MAC) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Ohio kicker Matt Weller connected on his second field goal with 1:25 left to give visiting Ohio a 27-24 win over Buffalo last Tuesday evening on ESPN2.
Running back Chris Garrett had a team-high 68 yards on 17 carries, while quarterback Theo Scott completed 22 of 28 passes for 221 yards with one interception. Junior wide receiver LaVon Brazill posted career-highs with 10 catches for 99 yards to lead the receiving attack. Linebacker Noah Keller posted a team-high eight tackles.
Senior wide receivers Marcus Lewis and Preston Williams each hauled in their first-career touchdown receptions and kicker Mike Salerno, also playing in his final home game, added his 16th field goal of the season to lead the Huskies to their fifth win at home in a 26-20 win over Ball State last Thursday night.
Despite being out-gained on the ground (167-134), through the air (134-91) and in total offense (301-225), the Huskies were whistled for just three penalties, and posted an efficient 13-of-14 passing effort, with DeMarcus Grady and Chandler Harnisch sharing the duties behind center. NIU was also solid on the defensive end, forcing Ball State into a combined five field goal tries and/or punts to affect field position.
