ATHENS, Ohio-Ohio junior wide receiver LaVon Brazill was named a second team All-American at punt returner by Sporting News on Tuesday. The 5’11” wideout becomes the 16th Bobcat in school history to earn All-America honors and the first since cornerback Dion Byrum in 2005.

The Lantana, Fla. native, who was the only Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) student-athlete in the nation with three punt returns for touchdowns, averaged 15.04 yards per return, the eighth-highest total nationally. Brazill recorded scores on a 72-yarder at Bowling Green, an 87-yarder against Kent State and a 91-yader against Northern Illinois. For his career, Brazill has a school-record four punt returns for touchdowns.

Brazill had previously received honors from the Mid-American Conference (second team punt returner and wide receiver) and Phil Steele (first team punt returner and fourth team wide receiver).

The Bobcats will face Marshall in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl in Detroit’s Ford Field on Saturday, Dec. 26 at 1 p.m.
