ATHENS, Ohio -- The Athens community is encouraged to gather at Peden Stadium on Tuesday, Jan. 2, to give the Ohio football team a rousing send-off to the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala. The team and its traveling party will depart at 7:45 a.m.

The Jan. 7 game against Southern Mississippi is Ohio's first bowl appearance since 1968. The game is the only college football contest of the day and will be broadcast live on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET.

The Bobcats have a 9-4 record and won the Mid-American Conference East Division with a 7-1 mark. The Bobcats played in their first MAC Championship Game on Nov. 30.

Southern Miss is 8-5 after winning the Conference USA East Division with a 6-2 record. The Golden Eagles' last contest was the C-USA title gmae on Dec. 1.
