Equipped with a background in both coaching and administration, Derrick Brown is in his first year as assistant men's and women's golf coach at Ohio University. In his current role, Brown's responsibilities include assisting in all aspects of recruiting, coordinating the teams' offseason weight training program and assisting with practices and qualifying rounds.

Brown is no stranger to Ohio athletics, having spent the better part of the last two years as a member of the Bobcats' academic support staff. The Vermillion, S.D., native began his tenure in Athens as the academic advisor for the Ohio field hockey, wrestling and men's and women's golf teams before moving on to assist with the academic services of the Bobcat football team for the 2007 campaign and the 2008 spring season.

In 2008-09, he helped both the Ohio men's and women's teams to success on the course, as the men's team posted its best finish at the MAC Championship since 2004 and the women's squad posted four top-10 finishes.

Before joining the Bobcat family, Brown served as the men's basketball graduate assistant at his alma mater, the University of South Dakota, for the 2005-06 season. He also has experience coaching high school basketball in Newcastle, Neb., as well as high school track and field in Vermillion.

Brown has also been active in the teaching community since the beginning of his time at Ohio University. In addition to his current post as Instructor of Record for University Experience, a class that teaches strategies for greater success in the academic, personal and professional arenas, he has also taught Student-Athlete Experience and classes on both golf and bowling.

A three-sport athlete and five-year state golf qualifier at Vermillion High School, Brown earned a B.S. in recreation from South Dakota in 2005 and received an M.A. in Health, Physical Education and Recreation with an emphasis in athletic administration in 2006. He was also a three-year member of the South Dakota men's golf team.

He is married to the former Jocelyn DeGroot of Ipswich, S.D.
