DADE CITY, Fla. – The top-seeded Ohio University men’s golf team put together a strong performance against top-seeded Eastern Michigan in the opening round of the Mid-American Match Play, but ultimately fell to the Eagles 4-2 on Monday at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
Freshman Ty Herriott (Brandywine, Md.) won his match, 2 up, over EMU’s Josh Heinze to pace the Bobcats on Monday morning. With his best ball victory on Saturday vs. Bowling Green, Herriott is now 2-0 in match play competition this spring.
Senior Bradley Lucas (Worthington, Ohio) halved his match with Kyle Rodes, while freshman Peyton White (Huntersville, N.C.) rallied from three down with six holes to play to pick up a half point against top-seeded Brian Churchill-Smith of Eastern Michigan.
Junior Andrew Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.) fell, two down, to Michael Blair, while senior Phil Gieseker (Saline, Mich.) and sophomore Brad Burgess (St. Catharines, Ontario) each dropped matches, three down, to their EMU opponents.
The Bobcats continue play at the Mid-American Match Play this afternoon against fifth-seeded Toledo.
