DADE CITY, Fla. – The eighth-seeded Ohio University men’s golf team defeated No. 7 Bowling Green by a score of 4-2 in the final round of action at the Mid-American Match Play at Lake Jovita Golf Club.
Freshman Ty Herriott (Brandywine, Md.) continued his strong play defeating BGSU’s Holden Pahr, three up. With another victory, Herriott is now 3-1-0 in match play competition this spring.
Senior Phil Gieseker (Saline, Mich.) and junior Andrew Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.) both were able to secure victories, beating their opponents by two holes.
Mlynarski finished the three-round match play event with a 2-1-0.
Freshman Peyton White (Huntersville, N.C.) won a tight match, one up, over Chris Melvin of BGSU. White went 1-1-1 at the Mid-American Match Play.
Senior Bradley Lucas (Worthington, Ohio) and sophomore Brad Burgess (St. Catharines, Ontario) rounded out the lineup for Ohio. Both student-athletes fell in their respective matches.
With the victory, Ohio secured a seventh-place finish in the Mid-American Match Play. The Bobcats fell to No. 1 EMU, 4-2, and No. 5 Toledo, 4.5-1.5, in the opening two rounds on Monday.
Ohio will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 to take on the Blue Demons of DePaul. The match will take place in Hilton Head, S.C. as a tune-up for the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate (Feb, 18-19).
