RICHMOND, Ky. - Behind a minus-three from Chad Warmbein, the Ohio men's golf squad sits in sixth place after two rounds in the Eastern Kentucky Spring Invitational.

The Bobcats shot 36 holes at the 14-team tournament at the Arlington Golf Course and recorded a 584 composite, two strokes behind fifth-place Miami.

Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) paced Ohio in the first day of the tournament with a minus-three 141, including a Bobcat-best 70 through the first 18 holes. He will enter Saturday's final round tied for fourth place.

"He's a freshman, and he's played most of the year, so he's getting better." Ohio Director of Golf Bob Cooley said. "He hit the ball pretty well today, and is making good progress."

James Ellis (McMurray, Pa.) has a one-over 145 through two rounds and is tied for 22nd. Tim Gusweiler (Loveland, Ohio) was two strokes behind him in a tie for 33rd place with a 147.

Mark Phillips (Hilliard, Ohio) and Stewart Jamieson (Worthington, Ohio) rounded out Ohio's scorecard with scores of 151 and 157, respectively.

Host Eastern Kentucky leads the 14-team field with a composite 559 while EKU's Shaun McConnell maintains the individual lead with a nine-under 135.

"We didn't play very well in the first round, but we played better in the afternoon and shot even par," Cooley said. "We're giving these guys an opportunity, and some are showing us some good stuff."

The Bobcats will conclude their competition in the EKU Spring Invitational with 18 holes on Saturday. A shotgun start will get things going at 8:30 a.m.
