Results Through Round Two
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Ohio University men's golf team posted a season-best 287 (+3) in second round action Saturday to take sixth place after 36 holes of action at the NYX Hoosier Invitational.
After posting a combined 15-over par 299 in round one, the Bobcats posted the stellar 287 score in round two to jump from 13th place after round one to 6th after 36 holes.
It marked the Bobcats best combined 18-hole total since round two of last year's NYX Hoosier Invitational.
Ohio has posted a combined score of 586 (+18) through two rounds. Host Indiana leads the field with a 561 (-7) while Illinois State sits in second (571, +3).
Four Bobcats sit in the top-30 of the leaderboard.
Senior Byron Firestone (Canton, Ohio) paced the Bobcats with a two-round total of 145 (74-71, +3) and is tied for 16th. His second round, even par-71 tied a career best.
Through 36 holes, Firestone is tied for second amongst all competitors in par 3 scoring (E) and par 5 scoring (-3).
Junior Connor Coldwater (Clarks Summit, Pa.) sits in 22nd after firing a two-round total of 146 (72-74, +4).
Coldwater and Firestone have each made a team-high eight birdies over the first two rounds of action, while Coldwater also has an eagle to his credit.
Senior Michael Lamping (Dublin, Ohio) is right behind Coldwater in a tie for 23rd (74-73-147, +5). Lamping was Ohio's most consistent player over the first two rounds, posting a team-leading 25 pars over 36 holes of play.
Brad Burgess (St. Catharine's, Ontario) enjoyed one of the finest bounce-back performances of his career in round two, as the freshman rebounded from an eight-over 79 in round one to post a career-best 69 in round two.
Burgess sits in a tie for 29th place (148, +6) and has played the par 5s at -3 through 36 holes. His 69 is the lowest 18-hole score for a Bobcat this season.
Senior Bradley Lucas (Worthington, Ohio) returned to the Ohio lineup for the first time since the fall season and is 90th after two rounds of play (81-87-169, +27).
