Day 1 Results

LEXINGTON, Ky.-The Ohio men's golf team finds itself in 17th place after the first day of competition Sunday at the Bluegrass Invitational on the campus of the University of Kentucky.

 

The Bobcats shot a round of 329 (+41) on the par-72, 7,013-yard course at the Big Blue Golf Club. Western Carolina is the overall team leader with a 17-over total of 305.

 

Also competing in the tournament from the MAC is Toledo (t-second, 306), Miami (fifth, 310), Ball State (13th, 320) and Akron (16th, 328).

 


 

 

Junior James Ellis (McMurray, Pa.) led Ohio with an eight-over total of 80, while senior Mark Phillips (Hilliard, Ohio), sophomore Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) and sophomore Stewart Jamieson (Worthington, Ohio) were all a shot back. Sophomore Tim Gusweiler (Loveland, Ohio) rounded out the team with an 83.

 

Andy Winings of Kentucky and Brent Long of Western Kentucky currently share top individual honors with a first-round total of 71 (one-under).

 

The final round of play will commence Monday.
