Bobcats Place Eighth At Kemper Intercollegiate

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University men's golf team fired its best round of the week Tuesday to finish eighth at the Kemper Sports Intercollegiate at the Glen Club in Glenview, Ill.

Ohio posted a final-round 299 to finish the tournament at a combined 39-over par (301-303-299-903). Host, No. 34 Northwestern captured the tournament title with a score of 844 (277-290-277, -20).

The Bobcats placed a pair of competitors in the top-30 of the event. Senior Michael Lamping and junior Connor Coldwater posted identical 54-hole scores of 223 (+7) to finish in a tie for 26th place.

Lamping played the back nine at even par for the second-consecutive round on Tuesday. Lamping bogeyed two of his first three holes, before making birdies on 10 and 14 to move back to even par for the round.

The Dublin, Ohio, native carded a 74 (+2) on the day to finish the tournament with a score of 223 (75-74-74).

Coldwater (Clarks Summit, Pa.) played his first three holes at one-under par before making a nine on the par-5 fifth hole. The junior rebounded with birdies on eight, nine and 14 to steady his round and finish at +3 (75) on the day. Coldwater's 54-hole total of 223 included rounds of 74, 74 and 75.

Byron Firestone shot a final round 77 (+5) to finish the tournament tied for 33rd. The Canton, Ohio, product played the course at a combined 10-over par (75-74-77-226) for the championship.

Sophomore Andrew Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.) improved 10 spots from his second round standing to finish the tournament tied for 51st place. After posting a score of 40 (+4) through nine holes Tuesday, Mlynarski played the back nine at three-under par to finish at +1 (73).

Mlynarski posted a three-round total of 231 (77-81-73, +15) and ranked third among all competitors with 37 pars during the tournament.

Freshman Brad Burgess (St. Catharines, Ontario) rounded out the Bobcat finishes in 69th place. Burgess carded a final round 79 (+7) and finished the championship with a 54-hole total of 239 (79-81-79, +23).

The Bobcats continue their busy week at the Rutherford Intercollegiate Saturday and Sunday in University Park, Pa. The tournament will be played on the Penn State Blue Course.
