Bobcat Men Turn in Two Rounds Saturday at Akron
April 28, 2007 AKRON, Ohio - With two rounds in the books at the FirstEnergy Intercollegiate - hosted by Akron - the Ohio men's golf squad sits in sixth place heading into Sunday's final round. Competing in the 17-team invitational at the Firestone Country Club, Ohio compiled a team score of 596 in Saturday's two rounds. The Bobcats will enter Sunday's action five points behind Binghamton and 12 behind third place Eastern Michigan. Mark Cimarolli (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led the Ohio effort on Saturday with an even 144 - including a one-under 71 in the first round - and sits in a tie for ninth place in the field of 96 competitors. Ryan Siekmann (Dublin, Ohio) is just one stroke behind Cimarolli with a 145, and is tied for 12th. Siekmann's 70 in the first round was Ohio's best score of the day. Grant Christman (Columbus, Ohio) recorded a 157 in Saturday's action - with rounds of 78 and 79 - and will enter Sunday tied for 68th. James Ellis (McMurray, Pa.) was five strokes behind him with a 162 and is tied for 86th. Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) did not receive a score in Saturday's first round, but bounced back and shot a 71 in the second. Jason Ferrante (Dublin, Ohio), competing as an individual, shot 159 on Saturday and will enter the final round tied for 78th. Charlotte paced the 17-team field with an even 576 in Saturday's 36 holes. Stefan Wiedergruen paced the 49ers with a four-under 140 to carry the individual lead into Sunday. Sunday's final round will see action begin with tee times starting at 8 a.m. |
