AKRON, Ohio - Competing in the 17-team FirstEnergy Intercollegiate hosted by Akron, the Ohio men's golf team took home a sixth place finish in the last regular season tournament this year.

In the tournament, held at Firestone Country Club, Ohio compiled a team score of 895, eight strokes behind Bowling Green for fifth place. The Bobcats shot a 299 as a team in Sunday's final round.

"We had some good golf, but we had some bad golf [this weekend]," Director of Golf Bob Cooley said. "Today was windy, and the way they had the course set-up, it was pretty difficult. We made a lot of birdies today, but we also made a lot of bogeys, double-bogeys and even triple-bogeys."

Ryan Siekmann (Dublin, Ohio) shot a 74 on Sunday to tie for 13th among 96 competitors in the tournament with a 54-hole score of 219. He finished three strokes ahead of Mark Cimarolli (Pittsburgh, Pa.), who tied for 22nd in the event with a 222.

Siekmann and Cimarolli were the only two Bobcats to finish in the top-25 of the tournament. Grant Christman (Columbus, Ohio) and James Ellis (McMurray, Pa.) placed 65th and 73rd, respectively, with three-round scores of 233 and 237.

Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) closed out Ohio's card with a 145, which placed him last after he was disqualified in the first round on Saturday because of an incorrect scorecard. He bounced back with a 71 in the second round, and posted a 74 on Sunday.

Jason Ferrante (Dublin, Ohio), competing as an individual, finished the event tied for 81st with a 239.

"We just weren't very consistent [this weekend], and normally one of our team's traits is that we're a consistent group," Cooley said.

Eastern Kentucky paced the 17-team field with a four-over 868, just one stroke ahead of host Akron. Charlotte's Stefan Wiedergruen one-under 215 took home the individual medal.

The FirstEnergy Intercollegiate was Ohio's last chance to prepare for the 2007 Mid-American Conference Championship, which will be held on May 3-5 in Westerville, Ohio.
