2012 Men's MAC Day One
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - Ohio Men's Golf completed the first two rounds of play at the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships on Friday. Through the first day of competition, the Bobcats are in eighth place with a team score of 609.
Ohio remained consistent through the two rounds of play on Friday, finishing with a 305 in the first round before shooting a 304 in the second.
Kent State holds the top spot in the tournament, having shot a score of 564 through the first two rounds of play. The Golden Flashes currently boast the No. 1 and No. 2 golfers at the tournament, as Corey Conners and Kevin Miller are in first and second, respectively. Eastern Michigan is currently in second place, a distant 30 strokes behind the leaders.
Michael Lamping (Dublin, Ohio) led the way for the Bobcats during the first day, shooting a two-round score of 147. The junior shot Ohio's best round of the day--a 71--in the second round. He is currently tied for ninth place. Lamping hit five birdies on Friday with all of them coming in the second round.
Not far behind Lamping is Connor Coldwater (Clarks Summit, Pa.), who is tied for 12th place. Coldwater maintained a consistent pace throughout the day on Friday, shooting scores of 73 and 75 to end with a 148.
Bradley Lucas (Canton, Ohio) found himself in the middle of the pack at the end of the first day, tying for 27th with a two-round score of 155. He dropped one stroke from his first-round 78 to shoot a 77 in the second round.
Rounding out Ohio's participation in the tournament were Byron Firestone (Canton, Ohio) and Paul Grauer (Dublin, Ohio). Firestone is tied for 40th with a 159 while Grauer is in 42nd with a score of 160.
The Bobcats will tee off Saturday morning between 9:00 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. (EST). Ohio golfers are matched up with student-athletes from Northern Illinois and Miami.
