Men's Golf Places Fifth at MAC Championship
May 5, 2007 Complete Tournament Results (.pdf) WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Ohio men's golf squad wrapped up its 2006-07 schedule with a fifth place finish in the Mid-American Conference Championship at The Medallion Club Saturday afternoon. Sitting in fifth place after each of the first two days of the event, the Bobcats were unable to make a move up the team standings in Saturday's final round. Ohio compiled a 72-hole score of 1166, for an average round score of 291.50. Ryan Siekmann (Dublin, Ohio) shot a 73 in Saturday's final round and finished tied for 11th among the tournament field of 45 competitors. With a 289 composite, his average round in the event was a 72.25. Siekmann totaled 15 birdies in the 72-hole tourney. Mark Cimarolli (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had the best day among the Ohio quintet on Saturday with a one-under 71. That score improved his tournament total to 292 for an average of 73.00, which placed him in a tie for 15th in the event. Cimarolli had 11 birdies in the tourney, including four on the front nine during Saturday's final round. Grant Christman (Columbus, Ohio) finished two strokes behind Cimarolli in a tie for 23rd with a 294 total. He had 11 birdies in the tournament, and capped his participation in the event with a 73 in Saturday's final round. After averaging just over par in the first three rounds of the weekend, Mark Phillips (Hilliard, Ohio) suffered his worst round of the tournament on Saturday when he shot a 78. His 295 total placed him in a tie for 25th in the event. Phillips' 12 birdies were the second-highest total among the Ohio golfers this weekend Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) finished fifth on Ohio's card with a 72-hole total of 309, a 77.25 average, and placed 42nd. He wrapped up his participation in the event with an 80 on Saturday, and a total of 10 birdies, including six in his second round 70. After leading following each of the first three rounds, Akron succumb to an Eastern Michigan rally as the Eagles captured their first-ever league title with a final score of 1138, three strokes ahead of the Zips. EMU's Graham Hill also took the individual title with an 11-under 277 for the tourney. |
