WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Ohio senior men's golfer Peyton White (Huntersville, N.C.) is tied for fourth place with a 69 (-3) through the opening round of the 2017 NCAA Championships West Lafayette Regional, which was held on a beautiful Monday (May 15) at host Purdue's Kampen Course at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

"It was a blast," said White of the opening round of the regional. "It's a special week. I'm just super excited to get going. I couldn't sleep last night. I was just too amped up."

White is one of 10 individuals competing as at-large selections at the the 2017 NCAA Championships West Lafayette Regional. The low individual from the regional will advance to the 2017 NCAA Championship, which runs May 26-31 and will be held at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. White currently trails Illinois State sophomore Trent Wallace, who is tied for second overall with a 68 (-4).

White shot one under over the first nine holes, tallying birdies on holes four and seven and shooting par on holes one, two, three, six, eight and nine. He opened the back nine by tallying birdies on four of the first five holes, helping him shoot two under over the final nine holes. His six birdies on the day tied for the tournament lead while his -3 shooting on the par 4s also tied for the tournament lead.

"First two holes, I was kind of shaking a little bit, but, after that, I kind of settled down," said White. "We had a good game plan going into the day. We were hitting the shots we were trying to hit, and everything was just in front of us all day. The putter was actually flowing today. It was nice. I was hitting the shots exactly where I wanted to."

White will tee off second-round action from hole No. 10 on Tuesday (May 16) at 10:34 a.m. ET.
