Juniors Stewart Jamieson and Tim Gusweiler both carded under-par scores on Tuesday in the final round of the Piper Intercollegiate to lead the Ohio University men's golf team to a six-stroke victory in its first event of the season.

Jamieson (Worthington, Ohio) and Gusweiler (Loveland, Ohio) recorded rounds of 70 and 71, respectively, to spark the Bobcats to a one-over 289 on the day, marking the second-best round in the field. The effort moved Ohio's tournament total to 876 (+12), six strokes ahead of runner-up Eastern Kentucky.

The Bobcats' tournament total of 876 equals the 10th-best 54-hole score in program history.

"This was a total team effort," Ohio Director of Golf Bob Cooley said. "We handled the pressure and played really well today. The players and myself all feel good about winning the tournament, and we feel like this gives us some momentum heading into the next one. This is something positive that we can build on as the season progresses."

Freshman John Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.) also etched his name in the Ohio record books on Tuesday, as he finished in a tie for first place in the individual standings with a final tally of 214 (-2), matching the 10th-best individual three-round performance in the program annals. Playing in his first collegiate tournament, Mlynarski carded a final-round 74 before entering into a playoff for the individual medal, falling to Bowling Green's Matt Schneider on the first extra hole.

"That was a pretty remarkable performance by John," Cooley said. "To play at that level in your first college tournament is an extremely challenging thing to do. I'm happy to see him play so well, and it's evident that he's going to be a plus for this program."

Jamieson's final-round 70, his second red number of the tournament, propelled him from a tie for fifth place after 36 holes to sole possession of third at the end of event. He finished the two-day competition with a total of 215 (-1), leaving him just one stroke shy of his career-best score and joining him with Mlynarski to give Ohio two of the three golfers to finish under par for the tournament.

Gusweiler also used a below-par round to make a move up the individual standings On Tuesday, rising 17 spots from a tie for 41st to a share of 24th (226, +10) on the strength of a third-round 71. Gusweiler and Jamieson's performances on Tuesday earned Ohio the distinction of being one of only two schools in the field to have multiple players in red numbers in the final round.

Junior Chad Warmbein concluded the tournament in a 28th-place tie with a score of 228 (+12), while sophomore Mark Reinhold (Cincinnati, Ohio) used a third-round 74 (+2) to tie for 48th place with a total of 235 (+19).

The Bobcats will return to action on Sept. 22 with the playing of the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, hosted by Ball State at Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind.
