The Ohio women's and men's golf teams opened the 2007-08 season on Monday in their respective tournaments hosted by Northern Illinois and Bowling Green.

INDIANAPOLIS - Playing at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course on the grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Ohio women finished Monday's first round of the season in seventh place out of 11 participating schools in the NIU Brickyard Invitational.

Ohio compiled a team score of 308 in 18 holes on Monday, 14 strokes behind tournament leader Ball State at 294, and one shot ahead of NIU in eighth.

True freshman Erin Cahill (Hilliard, Ohio) and senior Katie Stafford (Phoenix, Ariz.) led the Bobcat women with four-over 76s on the first day of the tournament. The pair is tied for 19th among the 65 competitor's in the field.

Cahill's classmate Jordan Fesh (Toledo, Ohio) also had a respectable showing in her collegiate debut as she shot a 77 to sit in a tie for 24th place.

Sophomores Colleen Lienesch (Centerville, Ohio) and Megan Curran (Dublin, Ohio) rounded out the Bobcats' card with a 79 and a 94, respectively. Lienesch's 36 on the back nine was the best nine-hole score of the day for Ohio.

BSU's Brittany Kelly shares the individual lead with Eastern Michigan's Stephany Fleet at three-under.

The Bobcats will conclude their participation in the tournament with 18 holes on Tuesday.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - At the John Piper Intercollegiate hosted by Bowling Green, the Ohio men's golf squad is sitting in 11th place out of 15 schools in the season-opening tournament.

The five players on Ohio's card compiled a team score of 598 through Monday's 36 holes. That score has the `Cats 37 strokes behind tourney leader Eastern Kentucky at 561, and one shot in front of St. Bonaventure in 12th.

Senior Mark Phillips (Hilliard, Ohio) and sophomore Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) share the team lead with six-over scores of 150 and are tied for 40th among the 78 individuals in the tournament.

Sophomore James McGrath (Connellsville, Pa.) finished third on Ohio's card with a 151 on Monday to sit in a tie for 48th while freshman Mark Reinhold (Cincinnati, Ohio) is tied for 54th after he registered a 152 on his first day as a collegian.

Junior Jason Ferrante (Dublin, Ohio) closed out the `Cats card with a 154 which has him tied for 63rd overall. Freshman Chuck Nettles (McMurray, Pa.) also made his collegiate debut on Monday and shot a 163 while competing as an individual.

Warmbein (first), Reinhold (first) and McGrath (second) shared honors for the best Bobcat individual rounds of the day at an even 72.

EKU's Phillip Hendrickson and Jesse Massie are tied for the tournament's individual lead with BGSU's Andrew Ladwig at eight-under.

The Bobcat men will close out their first event of the season with 18 holes on Tuesday.
