HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Ohio Men's Golf completed the first day of competition at the 2012 Marshall Invitational on Monday. Following two rounds of play, the Bobcats currently sit in 16th place with a team score of 595.

Virginia Tech holds the top spot through the first day of competition, having shot a team score of 548. Host Marshall is in second with a score of 564. Xavier's Korey Ward is the individual leader at the end of the second round, as his -7 score of 136 has put him in a good position headed into Tuesday's final round.

Byron Firestone (Canton, Ohio) leads the way for the Bobcats at the conclusion of the first 36 holes, having shot 71-74 to end the day with a score of 145. His even-par 71 in the first round of the day was the best score achieved by a Bobcat on Monday. Firestone is currently tied for 25th place.

Tied for 42nd in the field of 87 golfers and ranking second for Ohio was Michael Lamping (Dublin, Ohio). Lamping remained steady throughout the two rounds, shooting scores of 73 and 74 to end the day with a 147.

Freshman Brad Burgess (St. Catharines, Ontario) and senior Bradley Lucas (Worthington, Ohio) were Ohio's next two finishers, as these student-athletes ended the day tied for 72nd and 77th, respectively. Burgess' first two rounds of his collegiate career were 76-76 while Lucas dropped three strokes from his first-round 78 on Monday afternoon.
