Ohio Golf Teams Complete First Fall Tourneys
Sept. 11, 2007 Women's Complete Results (.pdf) | Men's Complete Results (.pdf) The Ohio women's and men's golf teams completed the first tournaments of the 2007-08 season on Tuesday at their respective events hosted by Northern Illinois and Bowling Green. INDIANAPOLIS - The Ohio women's golf team closed out its first tournament of the season with a seventh place finish Tuesday at the NIU Brickyard Fall Invitational at Brickyard Crossing on the grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Ohio compiled a team score of 628 in the tournament's 36 holes to finish in seventh. Eastern Michigan captured the team title with a 600, one stroke ahead of Ball State. Senior Katie Stafford (Phoenix, Ariz.) paced the Ohio effort in the tournament with a two-day score of 152 and finished in a tie for 11th among the 65 golfers in the field. She shot a 76 in both rounds. Freshman Erin Cahill (Hilliard, Ohio) finished second on Ohio's card with a 36-hole score of 158, which placed her in a tie for 29th overall. Sophomore Colleen Lienesch (Centerville, Ohio) was one stroke behind Cahill at 159 and tied for 31st. Cahill's and Lienesch's best rounds of the tournament came on Monday with a 76 and 79, respectively. Freshman Jordan Fesh (Toledo, Ohio) finished her first tournament with a 159 to tie with Lienesch for 31st. Her best round of the tourney also came on Monday when she shot a 77. Sophomore Megan Curran (Dublin, Ohio) rounded out the Bobcats' card with a 184 and her best round of 90 was recorded on Tuesday. Western Michigan's Laura Bavaird shot two-under on Tuesday to capture the tournament's individual medal with a 36-hole score of 142. The Bobcat women will next be in action at the Nittany Lion Invitational, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, in University Park, Pa. ### BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - At the John Piper Intercollegiate hosted by Bowling Green, the Ohio men's golf squad finished in 13th place in the season-opening tournament. The Bobcats recorded a composite team score of 911 during the tournament's 54 holes. Eastern Kentucky took the team tourney title with an 844, 14 strokes ahead of Bowling Green's "A" team. Senior Mark Phillips (Hilliard, Ohio) was the Bobcats' top finisher in the two-day event when he turned in a nine-over 225 which placed him in a tie for 26th among the 78 competitors in the tournament. He shot a 75 in each of his three rounds. Sophomore James McGrath (Connellsville, Pa.) came in second on Ohio's card with a three-round total of 228 which tied him for 39th individually. His best round of the event, an even 72, came in Monday's second round. Sophomore Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) turned in a 54-hole score of 229 to tie for 46th and his best round of the tournament was a 72 in Monday's first 18 holes. Junior Jason Ferrante (Dublin, Ohio) recorded a 236 in the tournament to tie for 65th and freshman Mark Reinhold (Cincinnati, Ohio) rounded out Ohio's card with a 237 which placed him in a tie for 68th. Their best rounds of 74 and 72, respectively, took place in Monday's first 18 holes. Freshman Chuck Nettles (McMurray, Pa.), who competed as an individual, finished 75th with a three-round score of 243. His best round was a 77 in Monday's second round. EKU's Jesse Massie took the tourney's individual medal with a nine-under 207, one stroke in front of teammate Phillip Hendrickson. The Bobcat men will next compete at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, hosted by Ball State, on Sept. 7-18.
