Marshall Invite Final Results
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Ohio Men’s Golf completed play at the 2012 Marshall Invitational on Tuesday. The Bobcats finished the tournament in 15th place, having compiled a team score of 883. Ohio shot its best score of the tournament on Tuesday, carding a 288 in the third and final round.
Virginia Tech took first-place honors at the tournament, shooting a three-round score of 836. Ohio State and Marshall were the next two finishers, each shooting scores of 853, with the Buckeyes edging the Thundering Herd in a tiebreaker. Korey Ward of Xavier was the tournament’s individual champion, winning top honors by shooting 69-66-69 to end with a final score of 204.
Byron Firestone (Canton, Ohio) led the way for the Bobcats, shooting 71-74-72 to end with a score of 217. The senior tied for 23rd in the field of 87 golfers.
Bradley Lucas (Worthington, Ohio) and Michael Lamping (Dublin, Ohio) were Ohio’s next two finishers, tying for 56th and 59th, respectively. Lucas finished the tournament with a three-round score of 223 while Lamping carded a 224. Lucas saved his best play for last, shooting a one-under-par 70 on the final day of play.
Rounding out the action for the Bobcats were golfers Connor Coldwater (Clarks Summit, Pa.) and Brad Burgess (St. Catharines, Ontario). Each of these student-athletes tied for 67th place with three-round scores of 227.
The Bobcats will next be in action on Oct. 8 at the 2012 Firestone Invitational. Ohio will play this tournament at the Firestone North Golf Course in Akron, Ohio.
