MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ohio University men's golf team finished in ninth place at the conclusion of the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational on Tuesday, earning a team total of 893 (+53) after completing the second round and contesting the final 18 holes on the second day of play.

"This was a team-concept tournament, where all five of our guys played together, and that was quite a departure from the normal routine for us," Ohio Director of Golf Bob Cooley said. "The way the team was playing had a big hand in dictating the way our players did as individuals. When we got off to a good start as a team, we did well; when we got off to a fair start, we played only fairly. Overall, it was a good to get experience playing in that kind of event."

Junior Tim Gusweiler (Loveland, Ohio) matched his career best with a second-round 70 en route to a 10th-place finish at Delaware Country Club, carding a total of 214 (+4) that also represented a personal best. He tallied three birdies during the final round to improve his total to 10 for the tournament, finishing with a three-over 73 on Tuesday.

"Tim had a really hot putter and was rolling the ball really well over the two days," Cooley said. "It didn't matter if he was looking at a five-footer or a 50-footer, he was around the hole and had nice touch."

Junior Chad Warmbein (McMurray, Pa.) posted a final-round 76 (+6) on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 44th place with a total of 224 (+14), while classmate Stewart Jamieson (Worthington, Ohio) turned in a third-round 75 (+5) to wrap up the tournament with a score of 226 (+16), good for 48th place. Senior James Ellis (McMurray, Pa.) carded a three-round total of 231 (+21), playing his best golf on Tuesday with a four-over 74, to tie for 57th.

"The course we played over the last two days was tight and tricky, and reinforced that we need to work on our short game a little bit," Cooley said. "We'll work hard at it this week, and we'll look for some good results the next time we take the course."

The Bobcats will have just a six-day break before hosting the Bobcat Open at The Lakes Country Club in Westerville, Ohio, on Monday, Sept. 29. Following that event, the team will depart for Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla., where it will compete in the Mission Inn Intercollegiate from Oct. 3-5.
