DAYTON, Ohio - Ohio Men's Golf ended its season on a very positive note, finishing third at the 2011 University of Dayton Flyer Invitational on Tuesday. The Bobcats completed the lowest second-round score of all teams at the tournament, carding a 287.
In the individual competition, Byron Firestone (Canton, Ohio) tied for second place overall, shooting a 71 and 72 in the two days of competition to finish with a final score of 143.
Three of the Bobcats had very good second rounds on Tuesday, matching par with scores of 71. Michael Lamping (Dublin, Ohio) went 75-71; Paul Grauer (Dublin, Ohio) carded 76-71 and Bradley Lucas (Worthington, Ohio) hit 77-71. John Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.) and Connor Coldwater (Clarks Summit, Pa.) rounded out the scores for the Green and White, shooting total scores of 154 and 157, respectively. Mlynarski made a big improvement from the first round to the second, going from a score of 80 in the first round to a 74 in the second.
Ohio finished only five strokes from first place at the tournament, as the University of Dayton and IUPUI tied at the end of regular play with team scores of 585. IUPUI ended up winning the playoff to claim the title.
