Men's Golf Opens Spring Season vs. Bowling Green

Senior Byron Firestone paced Ohio in the fall season with a 73.75 scoring average.

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio University men’s golf team kicks off the 2013 spring season with a matchup against Bowling Green Saturday (Feb. 9) in Dade City, Fla.

The match will be played at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. After the matchup, the Bobcats will remain at the course to compete in the Mid-American Conference Match Play Event on Feb. 11-12.

Ohio participated in four tournaments during the 2012 fall season, with the team’s best finish coming at the Dayton Fall Invitational on Oct. 22-23 (T-11th).

Senior Byron Firestone paced the Bobcats during the fall season with an average round of 73.75, which ranked second among MAC golfers that had completed less than 10 rounds in the fall. His best score came in the first round of the Marshall Invitational (Sept. 10), when the Canton, Ohio, product carded an even-par 71. He went on to finish tied for 23rd at the event.

Senior Bradley Lucas (Worthington, Ohio) averaged 76.14 over seven rounds in the fall and recorded a career-best, one-under par 70 in the final round of the Marshall Invitational (Sept. 12). His best finish came at the Firestone Invitational in Akron (Oct. 8-9), where he placed t-41st in a competitive field.

The Bobcats return to action at the Mid-American Conference Match Play, where eighth-seeded Ohio will open play against top seed Ball State on Monday (Feb. 11).
