ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University men's golf team returns from a three-week break to take part in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate beginning Sunday in historic Pinehurst, N.C.
The Bobcats are one of 16 teams competing in the 54-hole event, which wraps up Tuesday.
The 2013 competition will again be held on The Club at Pinehurst No. 6, as well as the Famed Pinehurst No. 2 (Site of the 2014 US Open and US Women's Open.) Championship rounds one and three will be on No. 6 while No. 2 will play host to the second round.
The Bobcats will battle a number of MAC foes at the event, including Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Miami and Toledo Also competing at Pinehurst are Belmont, Campbell, Eastern Kentucky, Marshall, Old Dominion, UNC-Greensboro, Richmond, Villanova, Virginia Commonwealth, Winthrop and Xavier.
Last time out, Ohio combined for a 78-over par, cumulative score of 942 (304-319-319) at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Feb. 18-19 in Hilton Head, S.C.
Senior Byron Firestone led the way for Ohio, carding a 16-over par 232 (74-77-81) to finish tied for 46th place. Firestone was tied for 34th after two rounds were completed, but the Canton, Ohio, native dropped to 46th after his final round 81.
Freshman Brad Burgess (St. Catharines, Ontario) played the course at 19-over par for the week (77-79-79-235) to finish tied for 53rd, while junior Connor Coldwater completed the tournament tied for 75th after firing a 24-over par 240 (76-82-82).
