Cimarolli Earns Weekly MAC Honor
March 22, 2007 CLEVELAND - Mark Cimarolli, a senior member of the Ohio men's golf squad, was announced today as the Mid-American Conference Co-Golfer of the Week. Cimarolli, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., led Ohio to a second place finish in the Kauai Collegiate Cup last weekend in Princeville, Hawaii. Cimarolli averaged a team-best 71 in the three-round tournament to place fourth with a 212. He shot an Ohio tournament-best 68 in the first round, and over the course of the 54-hole event, was tied with two others as the tournament's best par three golfer. "Mark is playing very well right now," Ohio Director of Golf Bob Cooley said. "He's hitting the ball down the fairway, hitting the greens and making some puts. He's just not making too many mistakes right now." Cimarolli will split the weekly award with Eastern Michigan's Graham Hill, who tied for fourth with a 216 at the Pinehurst Collegiate. This marks the second time in his career that Cimarolli has been named MAC Golfer of the Week. He also was recognized during his sophomore year. "He's just gotten better each year. He's maturing, and this is his fourth year of playing college golf," Cooley said. "He's doing the things necessary to shoot good scores." Cimarolli's MAC recognition is the second for Ohio this year. Grant Christman (Columbus, Ohio) captured the weekly honor during the fall season. The Bobcat men will next compete in the Eastern Kentucky Invitational March 30-31, in Richmond, Ky. |
