ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Director of Golf Bob Cooley has announced the signing of prep standouts Charles Nettles and Mark Reinhold to National Letters of Intent.

"We are happy to have both of these young men come to Ohio University," Cooley said. "They are both good players with a lot of tournament experience and they should help our program right away."

Nettles, a native of McMurray, Pa., will come to Ohio with an extensive list of credentials. On the national scene, he closed the 2006 fall season with a runner-up finish at the IJGT at Lansbrook in Tampa, Fla., and has four top-10 finishes in the last two years. Regionally, Nettles is a five-time winner on the Southwestern Pennsylvania Junior Golf Tour and notched two victories in Tri-State Junior events. Nettles also won the "Best of the Best Invitational" in Pennsylvania in 2006, was the high school state sectional champion and has captured four local tournament titles.

Nettles, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Nettles, intends to major in mathematics at Ohio University. He prepped at Peters Township High school, the same as current Bobcat golfers James Ellis and Chad Warmbein. He also played ice hockey at Peters Township, and will be the first left-handed golfer in Cooley's 19 years at the helm of the Ohio program.

"Chuck is a very good competitor and has played all winter down south in various junior tournaments," Cooley said. "He and Mark are just good players."

Reinhold will come to Ohio University from Cincinnati. While prepping at Moeller High School, Reinhold placed in the top 10 in every tournament he played, including a district tourney title in 2006. He has also finished in the top three in each of the three PJGT events that he played in 2006, had two top-fives in AJGA events and took home eighth place at a USGA Junior qualifier.

"Mark has a solid golf swing and hits the ball a long ways," Cooley said. "Fundamentally, he is sound."

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J, Reinhold, Reinhold has focused on golf in the last two years following five years of concentration as a baseball pitcher. He has yet to declare his intended major at Ohio University.

The Bobcat men will graduate four seniors this spring.
