Rutherford Intercollegiate Day One Results
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – After two rounds of the 29th annual Rutherford Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, the Ohio men’s golf team stands in third place out of 15 teams at the Penn State Blue Course. The Bobcats carded rounds of 288 and 289 on Friday, placing them 11 strokes behind host Penn State (287-279) and just one stroke back of second-place Virginia Commonwealth (289-287).
Ohio sophomore Ryan Siekmann (Dublin) is tied for 16th with a 36-hole score of 144 (74-70) and three Bobcats at tied for 20th. Juniors Jon Johasky (Lower Burrell, Pa.) and Brian Elsea (Columbus) and sophomore Mark Cimarolli (Pittsburgh) are all at 145 while sophomore Blake Russell (Dublin) is tied for 34th at 148 (72-76).
Maryland’s John Eades leads the 80-man field with a 136 (69-67). Saturday’s final round will begin at 8 a.m.
The tournament became known as the Rutherford Intercollegiate in 1983 to honor R.B. “Pop” Rutherford Sr., the man known to the Nittany Lions as the “father of Penn State golf.” Rutherford organized the first Penn State golf team in 1922 and coached it until 1949.
Penn State claimed the first 12 Rutherford titles but Towson broke the streak last year.
Saturday’s final round begins at 8 a.m.
