ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio University men’s golf team heads to Carmel, Ind., to make its 68th appearance at the MAC Championships beginning Friday.

Toledo will host the three-day, 72-hole event May 2-4 at Prairie View Golf Club. The Bobcats will play 36 holes Friday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The ‘Cats will then play 18 holes Saturday and Sunday. Kent State is the tournament's defending champion.

Freshman Peyton White will anchor the Ohio lineup from the No. 1 position in Carmel. The Huntersville, N.C., native has put together a team-best five top-20 finishes in 2013-14, including a personal-best t-7th finish at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in September. White has been named MAC Golfer of the Week on two occasions this season and ranks ninth in the conference in stroke average (74.13).

Junior Andrew Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.) will compete for Ohio at the No. 2 position. One of the Bobcats’ most consistent golfers in 2013-14, Mlynarski ranks No. 23 in the MAC in stroke average (75.63) and has posted two top-20 finishes this season, including a career-best t-13th finish in Muncie earlier this month.

Senior Phil Gieseker (Saline, Mich.) will be Ohio’s No. 3 seed at Prairie View and is coming off a t-18th place finish in Muncie. Gieseker’s best finish in 2013-14 came at the Cobra-Puma Invitational in October, when the senior placed 15th (218, +2).

Rounding out the Ohio lineup are senior Bradley Lucas (No. 4) and junior Thomas Leech (No. 5). Lucas (Worthington, Ohio) will compete in his fourth MAC Championship, with his best finish coming as a freshman in 2011 (t-11th). Leech (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is making his MAC debut after posting a career-best t-13th finish April 18-19 in Muncie.

The Bobcats are coming off their best finish of the season after putting together a fourth-place showing at the Earl Yestingsmeier Memorial Invitational April 18-19 in Muncie, Ind. Ohio totaled a combined 1130 (374-378-378, +80) over the 54-hole tournament. Four Bobcats recorded top-20 finishes at the event.

The Mid-American Conference Men’s Golf Championship will be held at Prairie View Golf Club for the first time ever and for just the fifth time in the state of Indiana. Located on 206 acres in Hamilton County, Prairie View Golf Club is the only Robert Trent Jones, Jr. golf course in Indiana.

Robert Trent Jones, Jr. blended 18 holes of traditional golf design into the natural beauty created by the rolling prairie, towering oaks and sycamores that characterize our site on the banks of the White River. A clear running stream that meanders through four holes, natural wetlands, and five serene lakes placed strategically throughout the course serve to complete a truly unique playing experience.

Consistently rated among the top course in Indiana, Prairie View Golf Club has hosted nearly all major Indiana PGA and Indiana Golf Association championships. In 2014, Prairie View will be the site of the Mid- American Conference Men’s Golf Championship (May) and the Indiana PGA Championship (August).

Ohio is making its 68th appearance in the MAC Championship this weekend. The Bobcats have won the event 18 times and Ohio student-athletes have won the individual medalist title on 10 occasions. Only Kent State (20) has won more team titles than the Bobcats.

Ohio hosted the event last season and finished eighth with a four-round total of 1244 (321-305-315-303) at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. Lucas (40th, 321) and Mlynarski (42nd, 330) were part of the Bobcat contingent that competed at the MAC Championships last season. The Bobcats posted a third-place finish at MACs in 2011-12.
