CLEVELAND – Ohio University sophomore Mark Cimarolli (Pittsburgh) claimed Mid-American Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week honors, the MAC office announced today. The Upper St. Clair High School product leads the Bobcats with a 74.1 strokes-per-round average this year.
Cimarolli paced Ohio this past weekend by finishing in a tie for 10th at the Rutherford Intercollegiate. He tied his career-best 54-hole mark with a 215 by carding rounds of 71, 74 and 70 on the par 72, 6,535-yard Penn State University Blue Course as the Bobcats placed fourth out of 15 teams in the event.
“Mark played absolutely fantastic at times last weekend,” said Ohio head coach Bob Cooley. “In the final round alone, he made nine birdies. He’s been getting better and better every week.”
The Bobcats begin the quest for their first conference title since 1980 in Thursday’s opening rounds of the MAC Championships. They will play 36 holes on Thursday and then 18 holes on both Friday and Saturday at the Medallion Golf Club in Westerville.
