ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio men's and women's golf squads will make their 2007-08 debuts this week as they participate in tournaments at Bowling Green and Indianapolis, respectively, starting on Monday. Bobcat Men A new-look team will fill out Ohio Director of Golf Bob Cooley's card as the Bobcats take to the course for the first time in 2007-08. Following the departure of three line-up regulars to graduation, the John Piper Intercollegiate will provide the first opportunity for Cooley to see what he has. The Bobcats will open the 2007 fall season in the 14-team even at Bowling Green on Mon., Sept. 10, with 36 holes. The tournament, played on the 7,064-yard course at Stone Ridge Golf Club, will conclude on Sept. 11 with 18 holes. Ohio finished fourth out of 14 teams in last year's Piper Intercollegiate, which proved to be its best finish in the fall season. Among those Bobcat golfers who return for this year, Jimmy Ellis had the top finish with a seven-over 151. Gone are line-up regulars Grant Christman, Mark Cimarolli and Ryan Siekmann. Among the golfers who are back, Chad Warmbein played in nine tournaments a year ago while Mark Phillips played in seven and Ellis in six. Participating in the tournament from Ohio will be returners Phillips, Warmbein, Jason Ferrante and James McGrath. The event will also mark the collegiate debuts of freshmen Chuck Nettles and Mark Reinhold.
Like the men, the Ohio women's squad will also have the majority of its regular line-up from 2006-07 to replace due to graduation. Assistant Coach Jeff Hetler's new line-up will make its debut at the Brickyard Fall Invitational. With Northern Illinois serving as host of the 11-team tournament, the two-day event will take place at the unique Brickyard Crossing, Sept. 10-11. Eighteen holes will be played each day at the course that runs adjacent to history Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Holes 7-10 of the layout are actually located inside the race oval, down the backstretch. Gone are line-up regulars Kristen Mautz, Shanna Siefke and Meredith Waterston. Katie Stafford played the most events last year among the returners with nine while Linsday Bergman competed seven times. Ohio will field a line-up that will include returners Stafford, Megan Curran and Colleen Lienesch. Freshman Erin Cahill and Jordan Fesh will also make their collegiate debuts. |
