CLEVELAND, Ohio - After tying for first place at the season-opening John Piper Intercollegiate, Ohio University freshman John Mlynarski was named Mid-American Conference Co-Men's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday morning in a release by the league office.

Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.) shared the honor with Piper Intercollegiate medalist Matt Schneider of Bowling Green.

Making his Bobcat debut this week, Mlynarski was one of just three golfers to finish the three-round competition in red numbers, posting a two-under 214 for the tournament. The performance equaled the 10th-best 54-hole total in school history.

Mlynarski, who fired back-to-back rounds of 70 (-2) on the opening day of play, led Ohio to a six-stroke victory over the other 12 teams in the field to kick off the season. The Bobcats recorded a team total of 876 (+12), which also tied for the 10th-best in program annals.

The Ohio men's golf team will be idle for two weeks before returning to the course on Sept. 22 for the opening rounds of the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational at Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind.
