ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio University freshman golfer Peyton White has been named the MAC Men’s Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Thursday.
It marks the first time since April 2012 that a Bobcat men’s golfer has earned the accolade.
White put together the best 54-hole performance of his young Ohio career this past weekend at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate. Going up against strong competition – including 2013 NCAA Championship finalist Illinois and 2013 NCAA Championship participant Auburn – White posted his first career top-10 with a t-7th finish.
His second round score of 68 marked the lowest round by an Ohio student-athlete in more than a year and helped the ‘Cats grab a fourth-place standing after 36 holes. It also was tied for the best score in round two amongst the field of 78. This season, White ranks t-4th in the MAC in scoring average (73.00).
White and the men’s golf team return to action Oct 7-8 at the Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
