ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio women's and men's golf teams will resume competition this week when they travel to their respective tournaments at Penn State and Xavier.

BOBCAT WOMEN
Tournament: Nittany Lion Invitational
Host: Penn State
Dates: Sept. 30-Oct. 1 (36/18)
Course: Penn State Blue
Course Layout: Par 72, 6300 yards

In the second event of the fall season, the Ohio women's golf squad will head to Penn State to participate in the 14-team Nittany Lion Invitational.

The Bobcat women have had a three-week lay-off between events following a seventh place finish at Brickyard Crossing on Sept. 10-11. With just one week of practice, Ohio recorded an average team score of 314 in the two-round season-opener, 13 strokes lower than the 2006-07 season average.

Ohio is one of four MAC teams in the field along with Ball State, Bowling Green and Western Michigan.

Ohio Assistant Coach Jeff Hetler will fill out his card with a line-up of Katie Stafford, Erin Cahill, Colleen Lienesch, Lindsay Bergman and Lauren Bergman for the Penn State tourney.

In the same event last year, Lauren Bergman finished 65th with an 87.33 average while Stafford averaged an 88.67 and finished tied for 67th.

Sunday's two rounds will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., while Monday's final round is slated for a 9 a.m., shotgun.

In the third tournament of the fall schedule, the Ohio men's golf team will participate in the 20-team field that makes up the Xavier Invitational.

Held at Oasis Golf Club in Loveland, the Xavier Invite will take place on Oct. 1-2. The Bobcats last played competitively at Ball State on Sept. 17-18 and recorded a team average of 296 to finished tied for 11th in the 17-team field.

Among the 20-team field, Ohio will compete against Mid-American Conference foes Akron, Ball State and Bowling Green.

Ohio last played in the Xavier Invitational two years ago and finished seventh out of 16 participating schools. There are no golfers on this year's roster that competed in that tourney.

Ohio Director of Golf Bob Cooley is expected to fill out his card with Mark Phillips, Stewart Jamieson, James McGrath and Chad Warmbein. Tim Gusweiler will also compete in the tournament as an individual.

Monday's 36 holes will begin with shotgun starts at 8 a.m., and 1 p.m. Tuesday's final round will begin with tee times at 8 a.m.
