ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University men's golf team will return to action on Monday with its annual trip to Akron, Ohio, to compete in the Firestone Invitational.
The famous Firestone Country Club North Course will be the site of the event. The par-72, 7,125 yard course will host a field of 17 teams.
The field consists of Mid-American Conference foes Akron (host), Eastern Michigan and Miami (Ohio), as well as the College of Charleston, Davidson, Francis Marion, Georgetown, Illinois State, Nebraska, Old Dominion, St. Mary's, Samford, USC-Aiken, Washington State and Western Kentucky.
The Bobcats are coming off a ninth-place finish at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate Sept. 21-22. Freshman Peyton White (Huntersville, N.C.) led the way and earned himself MAC Men's Golfer of the Week honors. It marked the first time an Ohio men's golfer earned the honor since the 2012 season.
White garnered the first top-10 finish of his career (t-7th) during the event. His second round score of 68 marked the lowest round by an Ohio student-athlete in more than a year and helped the `Cats grab a fourth-place standing after 36 holes. It also was tied for the best score in round two amongst the field of 78.
White will compete in Akron alongside four teammates, including seniors Bradley Lucas (Worthington, Ohio) and Phil Gieseker (Saline Mich.) and juniors Andrew Mlynarski (Saint Michaels, Md.) and Thomas Leech (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
First-round play will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. Two rounds will be played Monday, with final round play wrapping up on Tuesday.
