ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University men’s golf team wraps up its 2013 fall season this week when it heads to the Sunshine State to compete in the Cobra-Puma Invitational.
The Bobcats will play 54 holes at Miromar Lakes Golf Club (par-72, 7,390 yards) in Fort Myers, Fla., this Sunday and Monday. Competition begins Sunday at 9 a.m. in a shotgun start format. After 36 holes on day one, Ohio will wrap up the event with final round play on Monday at 9 a.m.
In addition to host Xavier, the Cobra-Puma field includes Arkansas State, Bethune-Cookman, Dayton, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgetown, Northern Kentucky, Savannah State, St. John’s, St. Joseph’s and Stetson.
Ohio’s starting five in Fort Myers will consist of freshman Peyton White (Huntersville, N.C.), senior Phil Gieseker (Saline, Mich.), junior Andrew Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.), senior Bradley Lucas (Worthington, Ohio) and freshman Ty Herriott (Brandywine, Md.).
The Bobcats are coming off a 13th place finish at the Firestone Invitational three weeks ago in Akron, Ohio.
White continued his strong fall play by posting his second-straight top-20 to lead the Bobcats at Firestone. White carded a final round 68 (-4) to go along with rounds of 77 and 73 (218, +2). The freshman currently holds the top MAC stroke average (72.89) for student-athletes with less than 10 rounds played on the year.
Mlynarski is third in that category with a 74.33 average. He notched the best finish of his career (t-17th) at the season-opening Marshall Invitational.
