Kyle Hansen is coming off his 9th season as the head assistant for the Bobcats. The 2013-2014 marked one of the most successful seasons in Ohio Wrestling. A record six individuals qualified for the NCAA Championships, where senior Jeremy Johnson earned All-American honors for the second time in his career. Ohio University wrestling also achieved excellent honors in the classroom. 2014 marked the second straight year that the Bobcats were ranked in the top 15 academic wrestling programs in the nation by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

Hansen has been instrumental in developing the upper weights for the Cats. In his time at Ohio, 24 wrestlers have qualified for the NCAA tournament and 4 have achieved All-American status. Most recently, heavyweight Jeremy Johnson placed 7th at the NCAA Championships in 2014 & 2012, while 174 pounder Cody Walters earned All-American honors in 2013. Hansen has also contributed to the Bobcats recruiting successes. In the past 7 years the Cats have had 4 top 25 recruiting classes.

In August of 2005, Kyle Hansen joined the Ohio wrestling program as its assistant coach. Hansen spent the previous three years as the University of Northern Iowa wrestling program's conditioning specialist. He also added the role of Panther Club wrestling coach his final season there. While coaching at UNI, Hansen helped the Panthers to 3 West Regional Championships and 3 top 25 finishes at the NCAA Tournament. In his time there, 24 wrestlers qualified for the NCAA tournament and 6 wrestlers achieved All-American honors.

A two-time All-American and three-time Academic All-American, Hansen finished his collegiate career at Northern Iowa with 80 career wins, including 39 dual meet victories. He was ranked as high as fifth in the nation at 184 pounds as a senior for the Panthers in 2001-02.

A native of Wilton, Iowa, Hansen graduated from Northern Iowa in 2002 with a degree in construction management. In 2008 he received his master's degree from Ohio in coaching education and in 2012 he achieved a second master's degree in Education Administration.

He is married to Carolyn (Valade), a past soccer standout for Ohio University. They have a son, Benjamin and a daughter, Marie.
