HAMPTON, Va. - The Bobcat wrestling team (5-4-1) finished with a 1-2 record at the 29th annual Virginia Duals in Hampton, Va., ending the tournament with a win over North Dakota State, 27-16. Ohio fell to No. 8 Lehigh in the first round, 34-7, and then to Bucknell in the first consolation round, 22-13.

In the opening round, seventh-seeded Virginia was the only seeded team to drop its first-round dual, as the Cavaliers fell to Navy by a score of 20-15. Ohio fell to top-seeded Lehigh, but freshman Tim Silvers and sophomore Andy Hartshorn picked up wins for the Bobcats. Silvers notched a major decision victory over Mitch Berger, 11-0, at 125 pounds, while Hartshorn won a 15-8 decision over Mike Mutch at heavyweight.

At 133 pounds, Quentin Keyes was pinned by Matt Fisk in 1:39. Lehigh's Seth Ciasulli scored a major decision over Germane Lindsey, 9-0, for the Mountain Hawks at 141 pounds. Ohio's Kevin Christensen lost a 7-4 decision to 14th-ranked Trevor Chinn at 149 pounds.

Junior Clay Tucker dropped a tough 5-4 match to Sean Bilodeau at 157 pounds. Mike Galante, ranked 16th at 165 pounds, pinned freshman Steve Wilson in 2:04. Nick Purdue fell to 15th-ranked Alex Caruso, 6-2, in the 174-pound match. David Craig pinned Brian Driscoll in 0:51 at 184 pounds, while Chris Iammarino lost a 5-2 decision to Joe Kennedy.

The Bobcats had a better showing versus Bucknell, who lost to Kent State in the opening round, but could not pull off the victory, losing 22-13 in the first round of the consolation bracket.

Lindsey, Tucker, Iammarino and Hartshorn all picked up wins in the match for Ohio. Lindsey scored a 6-3 decision over Adam Healey at 141 pounds. Tucker notched a major decision over Tyler Riccio, 9-1, at 157 pounds. Iammarino, at 197 pounds, won a 6-1 decision over Nathan Jones. Hartshorn recorded his second win of the day with a 5-3 victory over Jay Hahn.

At 125 pounds, Silvers dropped a 12-3 major decision to fall to 1-1 for the tournament. Keyes was bested by 20th-ranked David Marble at 133 pounds by a score of 9-4. Finally for the Bison, Rob Waltko defeated Driscoll in a 10-4 decision.

In the Bobcats' final match, Silvers, Keyes, Lindsey, Tucker, Purdue and Iammarino earned wins in the victory. Silvers won a 7-4 decision over North Dakota State's Trent Sprenkle, while Keyes pinned Tyler Steinwand in 4:33. Lindsey won his bout 4-2 over Gabriel Mooney, while Christensen lost a 6-3 decision to Ryan Adams.

Iammarino won by fall over Drew Ross in 5:30, and Tyler Hemmesch pinned Hartshorn in 2:40.

Five Bobcats posted winning records for the tournament, which head coach Joel Greenlee deems a step in the right direction for his team.

"We wrestled hard today, even though we had to face the number one seed," said Greenlee. "Against Bucknell, we won four matches without five of our starters due to injury. I'm proud of my guys. I think they're getting better and tougher and maturing more and more."

Ohio opens Mid-American Conference action Thursday, Jan. 15 at Northern Illinois. The match begins at 8:00 p.m. ET, and complete results will be available at OhioBobcats.com.
