ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Sophomores Jeremy Johnson and Ryan Garringer both posted 1-1 records in day one competition to advance to day two competition at the NCAA Championships. Senior Nick Purdue dropped two matches and was eliminated from the championships.

Johnson (Broadview Heights, Ohio) opened the championships with a 5-0 victory over Wisconsin's Cole Tobin where he earned a 5-0 victory to win his 11 straight victory. He then moved to the consolation bracket after he was pinned by 10th-seeded Michael McMullan from Northwestern in 4:05.

Johnson will face off against Oklahoma State's Austin Marsden in day two competition.

Garringer dropped his first match to 10th-seeded Jacob Swartz from Boise State, falling 5-2. He then earned a pin in 2:41 over Brown's Ophir Bernstein. Garringer's pin over Bernstein was his 11th pin he has recorded this year.

Purdue (Genoa, Ohio) dropped his opening match against Nick Heflin, falling 5-2. He then went into the consolation bracket where he faced off against Pittsburgh's Ethan Headlee where he came up short 6-4.
