SALEM, Va. - Redshirt sophomore Jeremy Johnson wrestled his way to a second-place finish in the 285 pound weight class as he highlighted the Ohio Wrestling team's season-open match at the Hokie Open Sunday afternoon.
Johnson (Broadview Heights, Ohio) won each of his first three bouts to advance to the championship match were he fell 3-1 to Virginia Tech's Dave Marone.
Redshirt senior Andy Hartshorn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) also turned in a strong performance in the 285 pound weight class as he placed third, posting a 4-1 mark. Hartshorn claim the consoluation bracket as he pinned Patrick Gillen from Virginia. Hartshorn tallied a pair of pins en route to the third-place finish.
Redshirt freshman Miles Chapman (Tiffin, Ohio) also earned a top-five finish as he placed fifth in the 165 pound weight class. Chapman earned a pair of pins and picked up four wins.
The Bobcats also received strong performances from redshirt senior Darrin Boing (Northfield Center, Ohio) redshirt freshman Harrison Hightower (Strongsville, Ohio) and redshirt freshman Michael Duckworth (Liberty, Ind.) as they each won three matches in the 141, 157 and 174 pound weight classes, respectively.
Ohio returns to action on Nov. 12 as it heads to the Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Mich. The match is set to begin at 9 a.m.
