Ohio Wrestling continued its fast start to the 2009-10 season, beating the Northern Colorado Bears in a dual meet Wednesday by a final score of 33-7. The `Cats improved their record to 4-0 on the young season, as eight Ohio wrestlers emerged victorious on Wednesday.
The match got off to a good start for the host Bears, as Tony Mustari defeated Kyle Ciccarello (South Euclid, Oh.) by a 13-2 major decision, helping Northern Colorado jump out to an early lead. Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week Quentin Keyes (Cuyahoga Falls, Oh.) answered immediately and emphatically by pinning 133-pound Zach Nash in under a minute.
The `Cats then proceeded to take the next two bouts, as Germane Lindsey and Seth Morton handled their opponents well. Lindsey pinned Michael Balagna in 41 seconds and Morton took down Rocco DePaolo by a 9-3 decision.
In the 157-pound division, Clay Tucker lost in a very close 5-4 decision to Justin Gaethje.
The Bobcats then took the next five bouts to finish out the match, as Kevin Christensen, Jacob Ison, Nick Purdue (Genoa, Oh.), Erik Schuth and Andy Hartshorn (Reynoldsburg, Oh.) all won their individual weight classes. Christensen (Fairborn, Oh.) won by a 4-0 decision over Tanner Weiks in the 165-pound class. Ison (Batavia, Oh.) then took a 9-2 decision wrestling at 174.
Purdue (184) and Hartshorn (HWT) won by decision and Schuth took his bout by forfeit.
