RENO, Nevada - The Ohio University wrestling team placed eighth out of 20 teams Sunday afternoon in the 2011 Reno Tournament of Champions, finishing with 48 points.
Senior Nick Purdue (Genoa, Ohio) highlighted individual competition for the Cats as he took runner-up in the 174 pound weight class. Purdue won each of his first three bouts to advance to the championship match where he lost to Cal Poly's Ryan DesRoaches 3-2.
Sophomore Jeremy Johnson (Broadview Heights, Ohio) won his first three matches, but fell to Oregon State's Clayton Jack, which snapped his 12 bout winning streak. Johnson would finish fifth at heavyweight.
Senior Darrin Boing (Northfield Center, Ohio) also turned in a strong performance as he went 3-1, posting victories over Stanford's Jordan Bryan and Oregon State's Drew VanAnrooy.
Ohio returns to action on Jan. 1-2 as it heads to the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn.
