ATHENS, Ohio - Five Ohio University wrestlers are ranked in the Top 33 of the most recent WrestlingReport.com NCAA Division I rankings, which were released on Monday. The five individuals ranked in the Top 33 of the latest poll are the most Ohio has had this season.
Redshirt freshman Spartak Chino (Wheaton, Ill./ 15-7) at 157, redshirt sophomore Harrison Hightower (Strongsville, Ohio/15-11) at 165, redshirt freshman Cody Walters (Macedonia, Ohio/20-2) at 174, redshirt freshman Phil Wellington (Euclid, Ohio/14-9) at 197 and redshirt junior Jeremy Johnson (Broadview Heights, Ohio/21-7) at heavyweight are ranked No. 28, No. 28, No. 17, No. 27 and No. 15, respectively.
Each of the five individuals placed in the Top 7 at the 2013 Southern Scuffle this past week down in Chattanooga, Tenn. Wellington highlighted competition for the Bobcats as he posted a fourth-place finish, recording with a 3-2 record. Among his three wins, Wellington logged a victory over No. 13 Brent Haynes from Missouri.
Walters opened the year by reeling off 20 straight wins. He suffered his first loss of the season this past week at the Southern Scuffle falling to third-ranked Matthew Brown of Penn State. Walters finished seventh in the Southern Scuffle.
Ohio returns to action on Friday, Jan. 11 as it travels to Dekalb, Ill. to take on Northern Ill. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
