No. 25 Ohio Wrestling Gears Up For A Pair Of MAC Duals

ATHENS, Ohio- The No. 25-ranked Ohio University wrestling team (5-1; 1-1 MAC) returns to the mat this weekend for a pair of Mid-American Conference matchups.

The first league clash will place the Bobcats on the road against Central Michigan (6-4, 2-1 MAC) on Friday at 7 p.m. in McGuirk Arena. Ohio returns to the Convocation Center Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. for its matchup against Eastern Michigan (8-3; 1-0).

The Bobcats' enter their weekend matches after posting victories in each of their last two dual matches, defeating Appalachian State (27-12) on Dec. 15 and Northern Illinois (33-9) on Jan. 10. Ohio has won 12 of its last 13 dual competitions dating back to last season.

Ohio features four athletes ranked in the Top 20 of the intermatwrestle.com in the form of No. 15 Tywan Claxton (South Euclid, Ohio), No. 7 Cody Walters (Macedonia, Ohio), No. 13 Phil Wellington (Euclid, Ohio) and No. 11 Jeremy Johnson(Broadview Heights, Ohio).

Johnson has a team-best 22 wins on the year and will chase his 23rd victory against Central Michigan's Adam Robinson.

Redshirt junior Harrison Hightower (Strongsville, Ohio) will be looking to post his fourth consecutive win and improve his 21-7 record. Hightower currently ranks third in the nation in pins with nine.

Central Michigan features five wrestlers ranked in the Top 20, Corey Keener (125), Joe Roth (133), Zach Horan (141), Luke Smith (157) and Mike Ottinger (174). Additionally, the team had three wrestlers place at the Southern Scuffle two weeks ago. Last week in Cedar Falls, Iowa, CMU fell 25-14 to No. 10 Northern Iowa.

Eastern Michigan comes into the Convocation Center after dropping two of its last three bouts last weekend at the Pitt Duels where it fell to North Carolina (18-16) and N.C. State (32-11). It's lone victory came against Duke (26-10). Redshirt senior Jared Geramaine leads the way for the Eagles as he owns a perfect 9-0 record and a No. 18 ranking.
