ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University wrestling team (6-2; 2-2) returns to the circle this week for a pair of Mid-American Conference duals this weekend.
The Bobcats' open weekend action on Friday as they play host to Kent State in the Convocation Center on Friday at 7 p.m. Ohio will look to keep its undefeated home record in tact. In last year's meeting with Kent State, Ohio suffered a loss to the Flashes, 26-11.
The `Cats last loss at home occurred on Dec. 1, 2012 in a 23-12 setback versus Central Michigan.
Following its clash with Kent State, Ohio travels to Alumni Arena in Buffalo, N.Y. to take on the Bulls at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Ohio enters the series of bouts after a 22-13 win over Eastern Michigan.
According to InterMatwrestle.com, Ohio is currently ranked 32nd in the country, and houses four top-20 wrestlers in the form of No. 15 Tywan Claxton (South Euclid, Ohio) at 149, No. 9 Cody Walters (Macedonia, Ohio) at 174, No. 11 Phil Wellington (Euclid, Ohio) at 197, and No. 11 Jeremy Johnson (Broadview Heights, Ohio).
Redshirt junior Harrison Hightower (Strongsville, Ohio) is currently ranked third for Division I falls with nine pins. His combined fall time, 18:19, is the second-shortest time of the top-10 Division I leaders.
Johnson currently holds the most victories for the Bobcats, with a 24-4 record on the season. He will be competing for his fourth-consecutive win, and fourth-consecutive fall.
Claxton will also be looking to earn his fourth-consecutive win, and his 18th win on the season.
Buffalo enters the competition after a loss to Columbia (24-9), and currently holds a 2-10 season record on the year.
Kent State is home to three wrestlers ranked in the top-20 of their weight class, and is currently ranked 27th as a team. The Flashes are undefeated in conference play, and hold a 8-6 record, overall. They come into Friday's match from a win over North Carolina State, 23-14.
