ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio wrestling team returns home for the first time since Jan. 3 this Saturday, when the Bobcats battle Buffalo in Mid-American Conference dual meet action at 7:00 p.m. at the Convocation Center. Ohio (12-6, 1-1) was last in action Sunday at the Wendy's Big Classic Duals hosted by Ashland. The Bobcats, wrestling without a 141-pounder, kicked off the day with a 25-14 victory over Appalachian State but then suffered back-to-back defeats to Ohio State and Cleveland State by scores of 26-10 and 24-12, respectively. Ohio, due in part to giving up six points because of the forfeit at 141, was in a 15-3 hole to the Mountaineers before winning the final six matches to take down Appalachian State for the second time this season. The Bobcats return to MAC dual meet action Saturday looking to improve on their 1-1 record in the conference. Ohio began the conference season with an 18-15 victory over Eastern Michigan on Dec. 9 and very nearly took down Northern Illinois on Jan. 19. The meet came down to the last match of the day, but the Huskies pulled it out for an 18-13 win. Ohio fell to Northern Illinois 30-9 in Athens last season. Buffalo (7-3, 0-1) has only competed in one MAC dual meet this season, a 30-6 loss to Northern Illinois on Jan. 14. The Bulls hosted the New York State Intercollegiate Championships last weekend and took third place out of 16 teams as the event. Four different Bulls took home either first or second place in their respective weight classes. Aside from Northern Illinois, the Bobcats and Bulls have faced two similar foes in Appalachian State and Gardner-Webb. Ohio defeated Appalachian State on a pair of occasions, winning by scores of 34-3 and 25-14. The Bulls took down the Mountaineers by a score of 25-16 on Jan. 19. The Bobcats defeated Gardner-Webb 43-9 while Buffalo earned a 42-3 win over the same opponent. Ohio and Buffalo met last season in New York, where the Bulls earned a 25-9 win over the Bobcats. The two teams have met 10 times previously, with Ohio winning all but the first and last of the meets for an 8-2 all-time record against the Bulls.
