Jackson Named MAC Wrestler of the Week
Feb. 7, 2007 CLEVELAND - Sophomore wrestler Terry Jackson has been named the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week for his performance last week against Ashland and Virginia. Jackson (Uhrichsville, Ohio) is the first Bobcat to win the conference's weekly award this season. He went 2-0 last Saturday at the Ohio triangular wrestling at 133 pounds. Jackson led the Bobcats to a pair of dual meet victories over Virginia and Ashland, two opponents that defeated Ohio last season. Against Virginia, Jackson defeated the 16th-ranked wrestler in the country in Virginia's Eric Albright as Ohio topped the Cavaliers 18-12. Jackson earned a 9-5, come-from-behind win over Albright in the final meet of the Ohio triangular. He trailed Albright 4-2 heading in the second period but then scored five unanswered points and used a riding time advantage on his way to the 9-5 victory. In Ohio's first meet of the day against Ashland, Jackson defeated Kyle Kanaga 3-0 as the Bobcats earned a 24-14 win over the Eagles. Ashland entered the meet ranked 12th in the country in Division II wrestling. Jackson is now 11-6 on the season and has yet to be pinned. He is currently ranked second in the MAC at 133 pounds. The Bobcats are 15-6 in dual meets this season and 2-1 in the MAC. It is the second time under Bobcat Head Coach Joel Greenlee that Ohio has recorded 15 wins in a season. The Bobcats also went 15-5-1 in the 1999-2000 season, Greenlee's third as Ohio's coach. |
