ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University wrestling team (3-5) returns to the mats at the Convocation Center on Friday at 7 p.m. for its final home dual meet of the season against West Virginia University (6-4).
The Bobcats enter the match following an impressive 22-18 victory at Buffalo back on Jan 29. Ohio got off to a hot start against the Bulls as it won four of its first five bouts to take an early 16-3 lead.
Sophomore Jeremy Johnson (Broadview Heights, Ohio) remained perfect in dual competition as he earned a pin over Jedd Mason to pick up his 25th win of the season. Johnson's pin was his 10th on the season.
Redshirt freshman Harrison Hightower (Strongsville, Ohio) also had strong bout against Buffalo as he earned a pin over Wally Maziarz to run his record to 16-13 on the year and 3-2 in Mid-American Conference action. Hightower's pin of Maziarz was his sixth on the year.
West Virginia enters the dual in the hopes of rebounding from its 26-12 loss at home against Pittsburgh on Feb. 4. Prior to that match, the Mountaineers had won four of their previous five matches, posting wins against Michigan State, Clarion, Lock Haven and Rutgers.
The Mountaineers have five individuals, who have recorded 15-or-more wins and two individuals that have won 20-or-more matches. Redshirt sophomore Nathan Pennesi, who wrestles at 133, owns the team's best record at 23-6.
